All About Same-Sex Adoption

Pride Month Tree - Adoption Resize

There is a core belief that adoption truly reinforces: Family is far more than biology – family is love.

The definition of family is ever-changing and so is how families are “formed.” Every child deserves a loving family. If you are ready, willing, and able to expand your family, this is for you.

Am I eligible to adopt?

In the State of Texas, adoption is regulated under Family Code Section 162. Texas allows any adult person who has standing to petition for adoption if they are:

  • Over 21 years of age;
  • a United States Citizen, permanent resident, or other qualified alien;
  • financially stable and can meet the basic material needs of a child; and
  • mentally, physically, and emotionally able to take on parenting responsibilities.

If an LGBTQ+ individual meets the basic qualification listed in the Texas Family Code, they should be eligible to adopt.
